Near Amagase Dam in Uji, I photographed the fiercest caterpillars I have ever seen. They raced up and down the stems of their host plants, efficiently stripping the plants of leaves and tender stems. They were fat and a little scary, and not at all cute. Caterpillars are supposed to move slowly!
The same day I saw this caterpillar as well. He looks like an alien, but he's kind of cute.
